About Skilled Visas
Highly skilled workers (qualified professionals or trades persons), who are under 45 years of age, can live and work in Australia permanently. Under the Australian General Skilled Migration Program, applicants use their qualifications, work experience, and language ability to satisfy basic Australian immigration requirements to ultimately obtain a permanent residency visa, which is the visa pathway to Australian citizenship.
Applicants are not required to be sponsored by an employer; however, applicants must meet the basic requirements and pass a points test. You must meet the basic requirements of health, character, age, English ability, and have the skills and qualifications that meet the Australian standard for an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL). The SOL is a list of skilled occupations that are in need in Australia. Each occupation listed on the SOL is allocated a points value for use in the visa assessment process.
The complete range of General Skilled Migration options are listed below and note that you may be eligible for a number of different visa categories and each one has different requirements and obligations. Please click on the links below for further information about each visa category.
