Other Family Visas

There are several migration options for family members of Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens.

Remaining Relative Visa

For people to join their brothers, sisters or parents who are their only near relatives and who usually reside in Australia.

Aged Dependent Relative

A visa for aged persons who rely on a relative in Australia for all, or most all, of their actual living costs.

Carer Visa

For people who are needed to care for an Australian relative or a member of their family unit, who has a medical condition.

New Zealand Citizen Family Relationship Visa

For non-New Zealand citizens to travel to and live in Australia with a New Zealand citizen family member who is a special category visa holder.

Family members who wish to migrate to Australia using one of these visa types must have sponsorship from a relative in Australia.  The sponsor must be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen.

The term ‘relative’ when used in this context is defined as:

  • Child;
  • Parent;
  • Brother or sister;
  • Grandparent;
  • Grandchild;
  • Aunt or uncle;
  • Niece or nephew ;or
  • Step relative of the same degree.
