- at least half of your children are permanently resident in Australia;
- you have more children living permanently in Australia than any other country;
- you can meet the financial requirements of this visa.
The Australian Government limits the number of places available each program year, however there are many more places available the Contributory Parent Visa and therefore the approvals are much faster that the Standard Parent Visa. Because of the financial requirements of this visa, some applicants choose to apply for the Standard Parent Visa.

The applicant must also have an Assurer of Support (can be the sponsor or another person). This Assurer must be prepared to:
- provide financial assistance to the applicant and the applicant’s accompanying partner and dependent family members so they do not need to rely on any government forms of support for ten (10) years of residency
and
- repay any recoverable social security payments made to the applicant or their accompanying partner and dependent family members in the first ten (10) years of residency in Australia.
This Assurance of Support (AoS) must remain in place for ten (10) years from the date of the applicant’s arrival in Australia.
